This project explored ways in which easily available materials could be recycled and reused in interesting ways. The project was also inspired by the versatility of newspapers and the central role they play in our day-to-day life. These were products were designed as a part of my final project during my Foundation in Art and Design
The chair with backrest is made out of tightly rolled newspapers that have been bound together. During the course of various experimentation it was found that newspapers when rolled had great strength. When grouped together these can comfortably support the weight of an average adult.
This table is made by folding the sheets of a newspaper to make a petal shape. Though decorative in design it also follows the law of physics and helps to distribute weight evenly and thereby fulfil the weight bearing function of a table. The structure is further strengthened by placing newspaper rolls inside the petals. The overhead view of this table is very pretty and looks like a flower. A sheet of clear Perspex is placed on top of the table base.
